Sunderland have released defenders Titus Bramble and Matt Kilgallon.
Bramble, 31, joined the Black Cats from Wigan for £1m in July 2010 and played 51 games.
Kilgallon signed from Sheffield United in January 2010 but made just 26 appearances and spent time on loan at Middlesbrough and Doncaster.
Sunderland have also confirmed that Danny Rose has returned to Tottenham following the end of his loan spell.
Bramble played 19 times last season, with his final game coming in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on 30 March - the day before current manager Paolo Di Canio arrived.
Kilgallon, 29, made eight appearances, but only one under the Italian.
He angered Di Canio when he was pictured in a casino along with Phil Bardsley ahead of the final game of the season against Tottenham.
Sunderland have also released striker Ryan Noble, 21, midfielder Adam Reed, 22, and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ben Wilson.
