Carlisle United captain Paul Thirlwell has signed a new contract to stay at the club until the summer of 2014.
The 34-year-old initially joined the Cumbrians on loan from Derby in September 2006, before making the move permanent in January 2007.
"He plays a vital role in the team and in the squad and we are delighted that he will be staying with us next season," said manager Greg Abbott.
Defender Danny Livesy has also agreed a 12-month contract extension.
