Jermaine Beckford is close to completing a move from Leicester to Bolton, who have signed teenage striker Conor Wilkinson from Millwall.
BBC Radio Manchester reports former Leeds and Everton striker Beckford, 29, is likely to have a medical on Tuesday.
Wilkinson, 18, did not make a senior appearance for Bolton's Championship rivals Millwall and has agreed a three-year contract with Wanderers.
Negotiations between the two clubs over a compensation package are ongoing.
Bolton have made four summer signings so far, with , external, externalAlex Baptiste and Robert Hall all joining Dougie Freedman's squad for pre-season training, which began on Monday.
And Freedman is excited at the prospect of adding Beckford, who scored nine times in a loan spell at Huddersfield last season, to that list.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: "He's a proven goalscorer and I think he'll be very good for this football club. There are small bits and pieces that we've got to try and tidy up, and then hopefully we'll be there.
"He's right up my street in terms of what I try and buy. Jermaine has lost that fantastic goalscoring record over the last couple of years and he's got a point to prove in that way, but he doesn't need to prove anything to me in terms of his attitude."
