Teenager Shay McCartan has signed a one-year deal with Accrington Stanley after being released by Burnley.

He is the second new arrival at the Store First Stadium since former England forward James Beattie was appointed as Stanley manager.

"James Beattie is a player I liked growing up, and a striker as well, so I knew he could help me improve," McCartan told the club website., external

The 19-year-old played for the Clarets once as a substitute in April 2012.

He ended last season on loan at Conference Premier outfit Hyde, scoring once in 16 appearances for the Tigers.

Beattie added: "I know a lot of people at Burnley were surprised that he was let go.

"He's a young player with massive potential and we're delighted to have him at the club."
