Oldham manager Lee Johnson has added defender Edijs Joksts to his squad, with the club's supporters trust helping to finance the player's wages.

Centre-back Joksts, 20, is a Latvia Under-21 international and joins the Latics on a free transfer.

He impressed during a trial at Boundary Park and has agreed a one-year contract with the League One club.

Trust Oldham's PlayerShare scheme has helped sign Luke Beckett, Cedric Evina and Shefki Kuqi in previous years.

Club director and Trust Oldham chairman Barry Owen told the club website: "PlayerShare provides fans with involvement in the team.

"The whole concept is that it allows fans to contribute and be part of the signing and development of a player.

"The manager sees Edijs as a player with great potential for the future."
