Defender Michael Nelson joins Hibs from Bradford

Hibernian have signed defender Michael Nelson on a two-year-deal from Bradford City for a nominal fee.

Centre-half Nelson, 33, won the League Cup with Kilmarnock during his previous spell in Scotland .

He also spent time with Scunthorpe and Norwich and enjoyed a six-years with Hartlepool United from 2003-2009.

"I'm delighted to sign for Hibs; it's a great move for me and I can't wait to get started back playing in the Scottish Premiership," he said.

Manager Pat Fenlon welcomed Nelson, his eighth signing of the summer, and believes the defender is capable of making an immediate impact.

"His experience will also help the younger players around him," said Fenlon.

"We believe Michael will bring four qualities to the team - size, physicality, experience and leadership.

"Those attributes will add further strength to our squad for the start of the new season."

With Jordon Forster suspended and skipper James McPake injured, along with fellow defenders Tim Clancy, Ryan McGivern and Bradley Donaldson, Nelson is likely to go straight into the team for Sunday's league opener with Motherwell.

Forward Rowan Vine is also banned and midfielder Paul Cairney faces up to three months out with ankle ligament damage sustained in training last week.

Striker James Collins is in line for his debut at Easter Road after completing his move from Swindon.
