Substitute Rob Ogleby got Wrexham's Conference Premier campaign off to a winning start against newly promoted Welling United.

Welling's Lee Clarke was denied by Joslain Mayebi before Joe Clarke broke the deadlock with a thunderous shot.

Wrexham could not build on their lead and Welling equalised through Joe Healy's smart header before half-time.

But Ogleby scored Wrexham's winner with his first touch of the game with seven minutes remaining.

Ogleby's late goal was harsh on Welling, who gave a good account of themselves in their first game in the Conference Premier for 13 years.

Wrexham player-manager Andy Morrell told BBC Radio Wales:

"I didn't think we were great first half. We gave so many free kicks away and enabled them to stick it in our box and to be fair to them they were putting it in with real quality.

"We sorted a couple of things at half-time and I thought we were loads better in the second half.

"We kept the ball better, which made them tire. We had a few chances in that second half and thankfully it came out on our side. A bit of a relief."
