Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich hammered Werder Bremen and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 40 games.

They led 3-0 at half-time thanks to an own goal from Assani Lukimya and strikes from Daniel van Buyten and Franck Ribery.

Mario Mandzukic made it 4-0 before Thomas Muller got on the scoresheet.

Ribery and Mario Gotze added goals in the last 10 minutes to complete the rout.

Bayern, who have not lost in Pep Guardiola's 15 league matches in charge, top the table by four points from Bayer Leverkusen, who beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 later in the day. Dortmund are now 10 points behind Bayern.

They were without in-form Arjen Robben, who was ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury, but it did not hinder their attacking prowess.

The European and German champions took the lead after 21 minutes when Lukimya deflected Ribery's cross into his own net. Van Buyten headed in to double their lead before Ribery fired home their third.

Mandzukic added a fourth from close range on the hour mark and Gotze fed Muller to make it 5-0.

Ribery scored again from close range and hit the post before Gotze rolled home a fourth.
