Brentford: Warburton, Weir and McParland sign new deals

Warburton won 17 of 27 matches in charge of Brentford last season as they won promotion from League One

Brentford manager Mark Warburton has signed a new rolling one-year contract with the Championship club.

The 51-year-old took charge of the Bees last December and guided them to automatic promotion from League One.

Assistant manager David Weir and sporting director Frank McParland have signed similar deals at Griffin Park.

"The club kindly came to us and offered us contracts. They were signed very easily and quickly," Warburton told BBC London 94.9.

"We are committed to the club and excited by the project at Brentford.

"We are thankful to the owner Matthew Benham for the support he has shown us and hopefully we can reward that support.

"It is important as you ask players to commit and buy into the long-term project. We have now got the staff tied down."

Warburton has already strengthened Brentford's squad as they prepare for their first campaign in the second tier since 1992-93.

Attacking midfielder Alan Judge has joined permanently from Blackburn following a successful loan spell in west London last season while striker Andre Gray and winger Moses Odubajo joined the Bees on Friday, with the latter costing a reported £1m - a club record fee.

"We were conscious we needed to get more additions in the attacking roles," Warburton said.

"Alan is a massive signing for us and one we really wanted to do quickly.

"Moses was outstanding for Leyton Orient last season and gives us a real cutting edge with genuine pace. Andre has scored a lot of goals in the last two season, has loads of development potential and is hungry."

Warburton is keen to bring in a couple more players to bolster his options before they begin the Championship campaign at home to Charlton on 9 August.

"We try and make sure we have quality coverage in all areas but at the same time you have to make sure you don't block any pathways to the first team," he said.

"We need one or two more in and Frank is beavering away. We have got a few targets in mind and we are getting close."
