Cambridge United have re-signed striker Kwesi Appiah on an initial six-month loan deal from Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old scored 10 goals in 19 appearances during a four-month loan spell last season as the U's won promotion to the Football League.

"I was here before and had a good connection with everyone," Appiah told the club website., external

"Hopefully the fans will see some more goals from me this season and as a team we give them something to cheer about."

Appiah was loaned to League One side Notts County after leaving Cambridge in January, but only started one of his seven games for them and failed to score.

He then joined League Two side AFC Wimbledon, where he also made seven appearances, but scored three goals in his final four matches.

Cambridge United director of football Jez George admitted they had been eager to re-sign the Peterborough-born player.

"Since Appiah left us, we've tried to do the best we can to bring him back," he said.

"We had to move really quickly to make this happen and despite a lot of competition for his signature from other clubs, we are delighted to have signed him until January"
