Swansea City's desire to keep Wilfried Bony is likely to be undermined by a big-money bid, warns former Wales forward Iwan Roberts.

With Liverpool thought to be keen on the 25-year-old Ivory Coast striker, Swansea's resolve could be tested.

"I'm not surprised Liverpool have shown an interest; it looks like they're losing Luis Suarez and they'll have £70-80m to spend," Roberts said.

"Bony fits that bill. He scores goals and can play that lone role."

While Swansea brace themselves for a possible raid from Anfield, Roberts believes that other clubs could also make their interest known before the season starts.

Arsenal, Everton and German side Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with a move for Bony, but no concrete offers have been made for the striker.

"The price has got to be right. I think if you're the Swansea chairman [Huw Jenkins] you wouldn't entertain anything below £20m after the season he had," said former Norwich, Leicester and Wolves striker Roberts.

"Every player has got his price, we know that. If Wilfried is going to go then it'll be on Swansea's terms and not the player's, and not the club that's shown an interest."

Bony was Swansea's top-scorer last season following his record £12m move from Vitesse Arnhem on a four-year deal, scoring 25 goals for the Welsh club.

He also impressed during Ivory Coast's World Cup campaign, scoring the African side's first goal as they came back to beat Japan 2-1 in their Group C opener in Brazil and grabbing an equaliser against Greece in their 2-1 loss.

While an approach from a bigger club could prise Bony away from the Liberty Stadium, the player said in May that he was enjoying life as a Swan.

Swansea have already signed former Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who can play a similar role to Bony.

But with fellow forward Michu also linked with a move away from Swansea, Roberts believes keeping Bony would be a big boost for the new season.

"If Swansea are to progress and have another successful season in the Premier League I think they will want to keep hold of Wilfried Bony," Roberts added.

"He had an outstanding season, but that's the reason why he is on the radar of other clubs."
