Cambridge United have confirmed that Limerick striker Rory Gaffney will join the club at the beginning of the January window on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old, who has signed a deal until 2016, joined the League of Ireland side from Mervue United.
He was the club's top scorer with 14 last term and finished the season with a run of 11 goals in 12 games.
"We feel he's got all the attributes to be a success in England," said chief executive Jez George.
"Rory came to our attention towards the end of their season.
"We have done all of our due diligence. Rory has been over to train with the team, he's met Richard and all the staff, looked around the city, watched us play and competed a medical before signing a deal.
"We don't want to put him under any pressure but we are delighted to have secured Rory's signature on an 18-month contract."
In 2012 he helped Limerick win the League of Ireland First Division by contributing nine goals.
