Billy Dearden: Adam Murray wants help from ex-Mansfield Town boss

Mansfield caretaker manager Adam Murray wants former boss Billy Dearden to join his backroom staff if he gets the Stags job on a full-time basis.

Dearden, 70, ended his second spell in charge of the club in 2008.

Murray, who played under him at Notts County in 2003, has won both matches since being put in charge following Paul Cox's departure.

"He is someone I'd like to have on board," 33-year-old Murray told BBC Radio Nottingham.

Midfielder Murray, who has yet to decide if he will retire from playing if appointed manager, continued: "I've spoken to Billy over the past few days because he is someone who I've had guidance from in the past and is someone that knows the game inside out.

"He is passionate about this football club and he has more contacts than the Yellow Pages.

"I will have a cup of tea with Billy this week to see where his thoughts are"

Since leaving Field Mill six years ago, Dearden has worked as chief scout at Blackpool and Sheffield United, where he spent six years as a striker between 1970 and 1976.

He first moved into management with the Stags in 1993 as a caretaker before returning on a permanent basis, first in 1999 for three years and again in 2006.

While Murray is still unsure whether he will get the full-time job, he is determined to set himself up to be successful if appointed.

"I want to make sure we cover every base, and if Billy can help out with a bit of information with teams coming up so be it," he added.
