Caretaker manager Adam Murray led Mansfield Town to victory in his first game in charge as they beat Plymouth.

Murray only took over on Friday following the departure of Paul Cox.

Kelvin Mellor hit the crossbar with the goal at his mercy, while Andy Kellett forced good save from Sascha Studer, as the visitors started the stronger.

Vadaine Oliver, on loan from Crewe, lobbed Luke McCormick after being put through by Lee Beevers to end the Stags' run of nine games without a win.

Studer blocked a Kellett shot from a tight angle in the second half, but Mansfield hung on and moved up to 17th in the League two table, while Plymouth slip to sixth.

Scuffles broke out amongst the travelling supporters and police in the second half, but the situation was quickly brought under control.

Mansfield caretaker manager Adam Murray told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"It was a good victory for us. It was important to get the message across to the lads and they stuck to our game plan.

"I got them in early this morning to clear a few heads and I wanted to make sure we got the belief into them.

"I have an affinity with this club and I will have to think about it, if I get offered the job, but at the minute I am just concentrating on the next game."
