Colchester United have signed Crystal Palace defender Alex Wynter on an 18-month deal, while Kaspars Gorkss has extended his U's contract.

It has not been disclosed whether Colchester paid a fee for Wynter, who had been on loan at Portsmouth.

The 21-year-old played 15 times for Pompey and had a spell with the U's last season.

Former Reading centre-half Gorkss's terms were described as "almost a game-by-game deal" by boss Tony Humes., external

The Latvian, 33, had signed a one-month deal in December and has featured six times since.

Both men are eligible for Saturday's trip to Peterborough United in League One.
