Hibernian sign up goalkeeper Tomas Cerny

Tomas Cerny spent his first two seasons with Hamilton on loan from Sigma Olomouc

Hibernian have signed former Hamilton goalkeeper Tomas Cerny on a deal until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old Czech spent five years with the Accies, leaving for CSKA Sofia in 2012.

Last summer he signed a two-year contract with Greek Super League club Ergotelis but that has been cut short.

"This move was perfect for me for both personal and professional reasons," Cerny told the club website. "I want to help Hibs achieve promotion."

Capped at Under-21 level for the Czech Republic, he is delighted to be back in Scotland.

"My wife is Scottish and we were keen to relocate back to Scotland, so when the opportunity came up to sign for Hibernian it ticked all the right boxes," Cerny explained.

"I know a lot about the club - I've played against the team several times before.

"I'm very happy to be part of such a great club with a great history and a great set-up; I'm excited about the future."

Cerny will provide competition for Mark Oxley, who has been at Easter Road on loan from Hull City since the beginning of the season.

"We'd been actively looking to bring in another keeper and Tomas fits the bill," said manager Alan Stubbs.

"He adds further strength in depth for an important position in the team."
