Former Cardiff City striker Rudy Gestede will be determined to make his mark when Blackburn Rovers face them on Tuesday, says Russell Slade.

Cardiff boss Slade acknowledges the Benin international, 26, has benefited from joining Gary Bowyer's Rovers in 2013, scoring 26 goals in 49 games.

That contrasts with nine goals for the Bluebirds in 60 appearances.

"He's been on the scoresheet for them and that will please Gary Bowyer, I'm sure," said Slade.

"And the move seems for one reason or another to have worked for him.

"I think that can happen - frontmen have a history of doing well at one club, but then not so well at another club.

"Sometimes it just works for them, but when you're an ex-player coming back to your club you always want to do well - you want to be spot on."

Gestede initially went to Ewood Park on loan, having joined Cardiff under ex-boss Malky Mackay in 2011 before making a permanent switch in January 2014.

Slade hopes Cardiff can find a creative spark following their dreary 0-0 draw against Brighton.

"We want to create more opportunities in the game. It was a little bit of chess, I felt, against Brighton," said Slade.

Former Wales international Paul Trollope has since been appointed Cardiff's head coach, a move which Slade said was made with his blessing.

Blackburn will arrive at Cardiff City Stadium after a 4-1 FA Cup win over Stoke in which Gestede scored a penalty.

Slade said: "I know Gary Bowyer and his team will be strong and physical. They have goal threats, whoever plays.

"They come confidently, they won their previous league game 2-1 [against Rotherham].

"They have had an up-and-down season, but they are on a little bit of momentum, that was a terrific win and it will be a tough game."
