Newport County have appointed Jimmy Dack as manager until the end of the season.

Dack had been in temporary charge since predecessor Justin Edinburgh - to whom Dack was assistant boss at Rodney Parade - left to join Gillingham.

Edinburgh has said that Dack could join him at the Priestfield Stadium in the summer.

Newport have lost two, drawn one and won one of their four matches since Edinburgh's departure.

That run of form has seen County drop out of the League Two play-off places, and they are currently eighth.

Some of their players, however, have said they would like Dack to take charge on a permanent basis.

"It's now time for us all to come together and get behind the team as we push for the play-offs," said Dack.

"It is vitally important that we make Rodney Parade our fortress and bring it back to the level it was earlier in the season."
