Barnet comfortably beat Gateshead to secure the Conference title ahead of Bristol Rovers and win promotion back to the Football League.

The Bees will return to League Two next season after a two-year absence.

Barnet went into the final round of fixtures with a one-point lead over closest challengers Rovers, who hammered relegated Alfreton 7-0.

But Mauro Vilhete's brace - a header and close-range finish - confirmed top spot for Martin Allen's side.

The Bees thought they had taken the lead on 11 minutes but Andy Yiadom's effort was ruled out for offside.

Just before the half-hour mark, Vilhete put Barnet ahead as he nodded in Sam Togwell's free-kick, before the winger doubled the home side's lead from close range just four minutes into the second half.

Gateshead's Carl Finnigan saw his header brilliantly stopped by goalkeeper Graham Stack, before The Hive erupted in jubilation at the final whistle.
