Oxford United have signed striker Ryan Taylor from League Two rivals Portsmouth on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old began his career with Rotherham, later moving to Portsmouth where he made 41 appearances last term.

"There were a few clubs interested but I spoke to the manager and I wanted to come here," he told BBC Radio Oxford.

"The way these boys finished the season shows that they're going to be very strong come next season, so I'm very excited to get going."

Taylor scored twice in the 2010 League Two play-off final defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge at Wembley and cites the Us' ambition as his reason for joining.

"I wanted to be part of what's happening here, they're very ambitious so I can't wait to get going," he added.

"The manager is my type of guy. He's a northerner as well which helps and I was impressed with how he looks at things, so I'm ready and raring to go now."
