Bobby Olejnik: Exeter City sign former Peterborough keeper

Exeter City have signed goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik on a free transfer after his contract at Peterborough expired.

Exeter have not revealed how long the 28-year-old former Torquay United and Austria Under-21s goalkeeper has agreed to stay at St James Park for.

He is Exeter's third signing this summer after Lee Holmes and Manny Oyeleke moved to the club last month.

"There's something special happening here and I want to be part of it," Olejnik told BBC Sport.

Olejnik's signing comes a year after the club was placed under a transfer embargo, after taking out a loan from the Professional Footballer's Association following summer cash-flow problems.

But thanks to the £1.75m sale of midfielder Matt Grimes to Swansea in January, Exeter are able to strengthen their squad this summer.

"When you look at the transfer embargo last season and all the problems Exeter had and how high they finished, imagine that money last year, who knows where they might have ended up," Olejnik said.

"I'm hoping we can replicate what we tried to achieve last year and do it this year. We're definitely looking to challenge at the right end of the table."

The Vienna-born goalkeeper came up through the Aston Villa youth system, before moving to Scottish side Falkirk where he made over 100 appearances in four years.

It was there that he was spotted by former Exeter winger and then-Torquay United manager Martin Ling, who signed him in July 2011 before selling him to Peterborough for £300,000 a year later.

He was first choice in the first two seasons of his three-year contract at Posh, winning the 2014 Johnstone Paint Trophy having been relegated from the Championship the season before.

But he fell out of favour with manager Darren Ferguson last season and had loan spells at York City and Scunthorpe United.

"He's a goalkeeper at the prime of his career. He's in his late 20s, got good experience and he's had some very good seasons recently at Torquay and Peterborough," Exeter manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Sport.

"The summer so far has been an opportunity for me to build a team and this is a very good part to that team.

"I'm delighted he's signed for us, I think he'll be a very good acquisition."
