Scunthorpe have signed 19-year-old England C centre-back Charlie Goode from Ryman League Premier Division side Hendon on a free transfer.

The former Fulham youth player has agreed a two-year deal, with an option for a third.

Scunthorpe claim they beat competition from several other league clubs for the teenager's signature.

"Coming from non-league is a big jump but it'll hopefully be a good experience," he told the club website.

"I was at AFC Hayes two years ago and joined Hendon where (manager) Gary McCann gave me good football down there.

"We just missed out on promotion in the play-off final last season and it's brought me here now, so it's been a really good season for me."

Goode started as a full-back before moving to centre-half after a growth spurt and he added: "I'm now nearly six foot five and I've always had a bit of pace, so it's just been a case that my height has helped me along the way.

"Now I'm following in the footsteps of my dad who was a centre-half as a semi-professional.

"I've got to work hard and try and earn my place here. I want to make as many appearances as I can. I'm not expecting to walk into the team but I'm going to work hard and do the best that I can to do that."

Hendon boss McCann told his club's website: "The minute Charlie walked through the door you could see he was destined for bigger things.

"He's been an absolute credit to himself. His performances have belied his age and I'm confident that he will settle quickly and progress further."
