Hartlepool have made their sixth summer signing after completing a deal for Cheltenham goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

Carson, 27, made 51 appearances in his only season with the club as they were relegated out of the Football League and had a year left on his contract.

The Northern Ireland international spent six years at Sunderland and had loan spells at Chesterfield, Lincoln City, Brentford, Bury and Hull City.

Following his Black Cats release in 2012, he moved to Bury for two years.

Carson follows Rakish Bingham,Harry Worley,Carl Magnay,Rhys Oates and Jake Carroll into Victoria Park.

"As soon as I heard Hartlepool were interested it felt right," Carson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"It was a perfect fit for both clubs. I appreciate Hartlepool sticking by me as there are a lot of goalkeepers out there on free transfers that they could have easily picked up, but Ronnie Moore showed that he wanted me, it took a few weeks but we got it done.

"It was such a tough year at Cheltenham and fingers crossed they can come straight back up."
