League Two side Crawley have signed defender Joe McNerney and midfielder Simon Walton on two-year contracts.

McNerney, 25, has spent the last six and a half seasons at National League side Woking, making over 200 league appearances for the Surrey club.

Former Leeds trainee Walton, 27, joins from Stevenage, for whom he scored five goals in 33 outings last season.

The duo are Mark Yates' first two signings following his appointment as Crawley manager last month.

"I think Simon is going to be a terrific asset for us in midfield," Yates told the club website., external

"He's great in possession, has got good set-piece delivery and he knows what this division is all about.

"I rate Joe as one of the best defenders in non-league football. He also has a real hunger to test himself at as high a level as he can."
