Alex Baptiste spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers

Middlesbrough have signed defender Alex Baptiste from fellow Championship club Bolton Wanderers on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Blackburn, is Boro's first new addition of the summer.

Baptiste, who played in the Premier League for Blackpool in 2010-11, has made more than 400 senior appearances during his professional career.

The versatile defender had a year remaining on his contract with Wanderers, having joined in July 2013.

Neither club have confirmed if a transfer fee was paid for the player.
