Alex Baptiste: Middlesbrough defender undergoes surgery on leg

Alex Baptiste joined 2014-15 play-off finalists Middlesbrough last week

New Middlesbrough signing Alex Baptiste has undergone surgery on a double fracture of his leg.

The former Bolton defender, 29, suffered the injury before half-time during a friendly against York City on Saturday.

Baptiste made 32 league appearances on loan at Blackburn during the 2014-15 season before agreeing a three-year deal with the Teesiders.

The operation took place over the weekend and was deemed a success.
