Jason Holt: Rangers sign ex-Hearts player on three-year deal

Jason Holt has signed a three-year deal with Rangers following a trial period.

The Ibrox outfit had agreed a compensation fee with Holt's former club, Hearts, where the 22-year-old started his career.

He spent four years at Tynecastle, but spent the latter part of last season on loan at Sheffield United.

"The style of play that is coming in is really exciting and if you asked anyone they would like to be a part of this," Holt told the Rangers website.

"Throughout people's careers you come and go so I am just delighted to get this done and finally be here."

Holt has made 90 senior appearances in his career, scoring 13 times, and featured as a trialist in Rangers' 1-0 friendly defeat by Burnley on Tuesday.

New Rangers manager Mark Warburton has already signed goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, defenders James Tavernier, Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson, midfielder Andy Halliday and forward Martyn Waghorn during the close season.

And the new signings could make their competitive debuts for the Ibrox side when they visit Hibernian in Saturday's Scottish Challenge Cup tie.

Rangers begin their Championship campaign on 7 August at home to St Mirren.

"It did hurt a wee bit leaving Tynecastle, I am a Hearts fan but it is part of football and now I am a Rangers player and my full focus is on this club," added Holt.

"When the situation arose that I had an opportunity to come to Rangers I just jumped at it.

"I've been really impressed from the moment I came in the door, I spoke to a few of the boys and they were saying the same and as soon as I got a taste of it myself I just thought the same.

"I wanted to get something done straight away and thankfully it has transpired that way and the club is definitely going in the right direction."
