Martin Cranie made 110 league appearances in three seasons with Barnsley

Huddersfield Town have signed defender Martin Cranie on a one-year deal following a successful trial.

The 28-year-old left League One side Barnsley at the end of last season after making 122 appearances in three seasons at Oakwell.

Cranie started his career at Southampton and has also had spells with Portsmouth and Coventry.

"I think the goal is to just keep on improving and push for the top half," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It's been a long summer to be honest and I'm delighted to get the deal done.

"I've played with (captain) Mark Hudson before and we know a bit about each other's game and that can be a massive help."
