Derby County have re-signed Burnley defender Jason Shackell for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

Shackell, 31, made 49 appearances for the Rams in 2011-12.

"His motivation was to go there for a contract on offer," Burnley boss Sean Dyche told the club website., external

"It's fair to say Derby County made an offer that was so large he couldn't refuse it."

The Stevenage-born centre-back was a regular for Burnley and captain under Dyche during his three-year spell.

Rams head coach Paul Clement told the club website:, external "We're thrilled Jason has become our latest acquisition."

"I know that the Derby County fans will know all about his qualities already, following his previous spell at the club.

"We feel that we have made a number of exciting signings this summer and this one certainly falls into that category.

"We're delighted that he has chosen to join us and I look forward to working with him."

Shackell began his career with Norwich City and made his senior debut for the Canaries against Derby in April 2003.

The defender then had spells at Wolves and Barnsley, before joining the Rams in June 2011.
