League One side Port Vale have completed a deal to re-sign young Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss on a season-long loan.

Inniss, 20, made five appearances for Vale earlier this year but had his loan cut short when he was stretchered off with an ankle injury in the 3-2 win over Coventry City in March.

"Ryan is a very talented defender," said Vale manager Rob Page.

"We have been in talks with him throughout the summer."

Port Vale's summer signings

Defenders: Remi Streete, Ben Purkiss, Ryan Inniss.

Midfielders: Sam Kelly, Sam Foley, Anthony Grant.

Strikers: Uche Ikpeazu, AJ Leitch-Smith.

Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite had warned in June that the club might not have the funds to bring in Inniss, but now the former England youth international has become their eighth summer signing.

Meanwhile, Page has revealed that he will not be signing another goalkeeper on loan to cover for Chris Neal, who injured his ankle ligaments in last week's friendly against Notts County.

Page, who confirmed that Neal will miss Vale's season-opening local derby at Crewe, says he will definitely start with deputy Sam Johnson.

"Sam's got everything," Page told BBC Radio Stoke. "Every time he's come in, he's given a good account of himself, so we've every confidence in him.

"Chris has got a major problem. It's going to be weeks rather than months, but it's not going to be a quick turnaround."
