Crewe Alexandra have signed central defender Ben Nugent from Championship side Cardiff City on a two-year deal.

Nugent, 22, joins the League One Alex on a free transfer after 14 appearances in three seasons with the Bluebirds.

A Cardiff trainee, Nugent had loan spells with Brentford and Peterborough before spending last term with Yeovil, scoring once in 26 games.

He is in line for his debut in Crewe's opening game of the new season against local rivals Port Vale on Saturday.

Nugent, who featured in Yeovil's 2-0 defeat by Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup in January, is the Alex's fifth signing ahead of the new campaign.
