Dundee United have had a bid accepted for striker Billy Mckay

Dundee United have had a bid of about £200,000 accepted by Wigan Athletic for striker Billy Mckay.

The former Inverness CT player has played only nine games for Wigan since joining them in January this year.

"We are working on one or two things just now and there is nothing concrete at the moment," United boss Jackie McNamara told BBC Scotland.

"But we are trying to get some stuff done."

Mckay has still to reach a financial settlement with Wigan about his departure from the League One club.

Ross County and Hibernian were also interested in signing the player but wanted the 26-year-old on loan.

United are now firm favourites to capture Mckay, who scored over 50 goals in his spell with Caley Thistle, if he can arrange a severance deal.

Meanwhile, McNamara, who refused to discuss any deal for Mckay or any other transfer target at Thursday's media conference, says it is important they pick up maximum points against County on Saturday ahead of the international break.

He says after defeats to Hamilton and Celtic in their past two matches it is crucial the team start winning again.

"I think the biggest disappointment was the Hamilton game, the performance and the result," he said. "The rest of them, I don't think there has been much in the games.

"The Celtic game I thought they were dominant for the first thirty minutes then we came into it. The second half we were better."

He says trying to get the winning mentality back into his young squad is the key to success.

"It comes with the experience of winning games and being positive and blocking out all the negativity, all the negative questions and things they hear outside of here[the club]."
