Hibernian have signed former Hearts left-back Adam Eckersley on a deal until January, subject to clearance.

The 30-year-old Englishman was a free agent after spending last season at Tynecastle.

Eckersley has previously played in Belgium, Denmark and with several clubs in his homeland.

"We have a strong squad here and I'll be working hard to push myself into the manager's plans," he told the Hibernian website., external

"I'm delighted to have signed for Hibs. I know I can do well here and am looking forward to helping the team in the coming months."

The defender, who has made almost 300 senior appearances, started his career at Manchester United and was loaned out to Royal Antwerp, Brondby, Barnsley and Port Vale, who he subsequently joined on a formal basis.

A return to Denmark with Horsens followed and he then joined AGF Aarhus before first coming to Scottish football with Hearts.

"We're very pleased to have Adam join the club," said Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs.

"He strengthens our defensive options and adds to the competition for places in defence.

"He has shown his ability at this level in the past and I'm confident he'll make a positive contribution here."
