Kidderminster Harriers can learn quickly, says caretaker Gordon

Kidderminster Harriers caretaker boss Colin Gordon is confident his side can be quick learners and play their way out of trouble despite their winless start to the National League season.

Gordon took charge of Kidderminster for the first time at Bromley on Tuesday, where they led 1-0 but lost 3-2.

It leaves Harriers two points adrift at the foot of the table after 12 games.

But Gordon told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I'm proud of the way the players have learned so quickly."

After demoting manager Gary Whild and offering Tim Flowers a job as head coach, which he never actually accepted, Harriers effectively played their three previous games without anyone formally in charge.

But former agent Gordon, who has taken the helm for the next two matches following Whild's subsequent dismissal, is already intent on deciding which direction the financially-challenged club will take when it comes to playing football.

"This football club can't survive playing bish-bash-bosh football," added the much-travelled ex-Harriers striker. "I'm a bit of a purist and I've not seen many good games this season.

"One day's training, one day's coaching, we've worked totally on shape and the understanding they showed was remarkable. I'm very proud.

"Forest Green's frontline, Wrexham's frontline . . . they're at a different level. We haven't got the finances to go and bring in a 28-year-old jobbing centre-forward.

"But we've got the finances to bring in three lads on loan from Premier League clubs for nothing and we'll work with them. One coaching session and a team meeting... people tell me footballers are thick and can't take on information. You have got to be kidding me!"
