Championship side Brentford have signed Chelsea's England Under-20 international John Swift on a one-month youth loan deal.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who had loan spells at Rotherham and Swindon last season, will remain at Griffin Park until 31 October.

"John has lots of energy and can play in various positions," Bees head coach Lee Carsley told the club website., external

"It is great Chelsea feel this is the right environment for him to develop."

Swift, whose sole appearance for the Blues came as a late substitute against Cardiff on the final day of the 2013-14 campaign, has been a regular for the Premier League club's Under-21 side this season.

He becomes Carsley's first signing since he was placed in charge until the end of the season earlier this week.

"After discussing the situation with Lee we decided it was a good solution to bring a loan player in at this time," Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles said.

"John will bring some additional attacking qualities to our midfield."
