Tyrone edged out Kerry 0-17 to 1-12 after extra-time in the All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at Croke Park.

The Red Hands had Chris Morris and Ruairi McGlone sent off in the second half but Tyrone hit the last two points in normal time to force extra time.

Tyrone were back to 15 players in extra time and they moved three ahead.

Kerry, with Jack Savage finishing with 1-7, fought back to level but despite missing a penalty, Tyrone hit the last two points to take the victory.

The decisive late points came courtesy of a superb '45 from substitute Tiarnan Donnelly and centre half-forward Conor McKenna.

Tyrone led 0-9 to 1-4 at half-time but the game appeared to be slipping away from them as firstly Morris and McGlone were dismissed.

Centre half-back Morris was sent off against getting a second yellow card and compounded the offence by lashing out at a Kerry player as he made his way off the pitch.

Captain McGlone was then dismissed in the final five minutes of the contest after tussling with a Kerry player.

But despite their indiscipline, Stephen McGrath's point in the third minute of injury time got the Red Hands back on terms after Lee Brennan had earlier cut Kerry's lead to the minimum.

Kerry appeared deflated in the opening period of extra time as Tyrone, back to the full complement of players, moved three ahead with Ronan Nugent, Philip Donnelly and McGrath on target.

The Kingdom cut Tyrone's lead to one by the end of the first period of extra time and another Savage point levelled the contest.

But despite Lee Brennan's penalty miss, the late points by sub Donnelly and McKenna sealed Tyrone's win.
