Jamie Soward confident of London Broncos impact

Jamie Soward is confident he can help the London Broncos to improve after joining the Super League side.

The 28-year-old Australian half-back made his debut as a replacement in the 44-30 defeat by Salford on Saturday.

He told BBC London 94.9: "They are a young side here. They just need some older heads to keep them on the job and moving forward.

"I am a competitor and a sore loser. I am not here for a holiday, I am here to play footy and try and win games."

He added: "I have come here to win games and try and help these young blokes.

"These kids are still learning the ins and outs of first grade. I am not the most talented bloke but I just go out there and play."

Soward, who has joined until the end of the season following his release by St George Illawarra Dragons, was named among the replacements at the Twickenham Stoop despite only stepping off a plane from Australia on Saturday morning.

"Tony [Rea, Broncos head coach] didn't really want me to play but I was pestering him and said 'I'm not over here to watch'," Soward continued.

"I think he had to let me as he didn't want me sitting up next to him in the box and telling him what to do.

"I'm looking forward to getting to know a few of the boys after just meeting them, shaking their hands and playing along side them."

The Broncos slipped to the bottom of the Super League table after the defeat by Salford but Soward says they showed flashes of potential.

"The start was pretty poor and it's a learning experience," he said.

"We need to look at the tape from the first 20 minutes, discuss it, and then watch the next 60 and see why we scored 30 points.

"The second half was 24-10 and that, for me, is a team that is going places."
