Wigan Warriors: Blake Green to leave club at the end of the season

Green will return to his native Australia at the end of the season

Wigan Warriors have announced that half-back Blake Green will leave the club at the end of the current season.

The 27-year-old Australian has scored 68 points in 42 appearances for Wigan since arriving from Hull KR in 2013.

He told the club website:, external "Being part of Wigan has built my profile that will stand me in good stead in the future.

"The club and fans will remain part of me forever. I leave with a heavy heart but the time is right for my career and my family to return home to Australia."

Green was a key part of the Wigan side that beat Warrington Wolves 30-16 in the 2013 Super League Grand Final.

The Australian is currently on the sidelines, recovering from a torn bicep.

Prior to his move to Hull KR in 2010, Green previously played for Canterbury Bulldogs, Parramatta Eels and Cronulla and is currently being linked with a move Melbourne Storm by the Australian media.

"Blake has been outstanding for us and a pleasure to coach over the past 18 months," Warriors head coach Shaun Wane added.

"I would have loved to have kept him but, following discussions, it was clear that he wants to return home to Australia with his young family and has the opportunity to join a top club over there."
