Cardiff Blues confirm Jason Tovey moving from the Dragons

Jason Tovey was part of Wales' training squad ahead of the 2011 World Cup

Cardiff Blues have confirmed fly-half Jason Tovey will join the region from the Dragons for the 2012-13 season.

Tovey says he will make the move after being impressed with the facilities at the Blues.

As well as that he wants to play alongside Wales duo Sam Warburton and Jamie Roberts.

"I had a look around at my options and the facilities at the Blues were one of the big factors for me deciding to join them," said Tovey.

"It's by far one of the best training centres I've seen."

"Also having the opportunity to play with the likes of Jamie Roberts, Leigh Halfpenny and Sam Warburton is, for me personally, a big step forward in my career.

"I grew up playing alongside Leigh and Sam at Wales Under-16s to the Under-20s and still keep in touch, so it would be good to meet up with them at the Blues.

"One of the other key things I looked for was playing Heineken Cup rugby and hopefully I can also push for international honours."

Cardiff Blues backs coach Gareth Baber believes the Blues have signed a "smart player" to replace Dan Parks, who is joining Connacht on a two-year deal.

"Jason has got a very good kicking game that can cause opponents problems, but over and beyond that he's a smart player," he said.

"He's played a lot of his career at fullback and we see him as an attacking threat. He is a good strategist but also a threat with ball in hand."

Tovey is just one of a number of number of high profile players the struggling Dragons are set to lose at the end of the season including lose captain Luke Charteris and Aled Brew.
