Scarlets centre Jonathan Davies has been ruled out of the rest of the Pro12 season because of a hernia problem.

The injury could keep him out for up to five weeks if it requires surgery, raising doubts over his involvement on Wales' tour to Australia.

Scarlets will consult the Wales team management before deciding whether Davies, 24, goes under the knife.

"It doesn't look likely Jon will be available now," said Scarlets coach Nigel Davies.

Scarlets have two games left in the regular season, starting at home to Munster on Saturday and then home again against Cardiff Blues on 5 May.

A place in the end-of-season play-offs is still within their grasp, but they need two wins and other results to go their way to move up into the top four.

Davies started every game as Wales won this season's Six Nations Grand Slam and was expected to face Australia in the three Test tour in June.

"He's gone to see a specialist for a consultation on a sports hernia," added coach Davies.

"After that consultation we'll know where he is. There's two courses of action, either we can rehab him and get him available in the next couple of weeks or the other option is that he gets an operation done.

"That's a three to five week rehab. I can't see him being available for us for the rest of the season."

The centre, who has played only 12 games for the Scarlets this season, signed a two-year contract extension in February.
