Head coach Lyn Jones has revealed Gavin Henson will be back in action in four weeks for London Welsh after he suffered a fractured cheekbone.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury during London Welsh's pre-season friendly defeat against the Scarlets.

The fly-half is expected to miss the first four weeks of his side's Aviva Premiership campaign.

"Gavin will be around in four weeks time and we look forward to having him back," said Jones.

Henson suffered a minor fracture to his cheekbone after he was tackled by Deacon Manu in the first minute of the game at Parc y Scarlets.

The Wales back played on but was replaced after 30 minutes and taken immediately for an X-ray and had an operation in Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

"Injuries happen all the time in rugby and what has hapened here is no different to what has happened to a dozen players last weekend," said Jones.

"Gav has a lot of potential and he has had a troublesome three years and that has been well documented.

"But we are giving him a fresh start here and now it is just going to be delayed for a few weeks that's all.

"It wasn't a sure thing that Gavin was going to get selected with a player of [Scotland fly-half] Gordon Ross' quality and experience available for selection.

"Gordon gives us a great deal and together they were going to be a great pairiing."

Jones, a former Ospreys and Neath coach, has had only seven weeks to prepare for London Welsh's first campaign in the Premiership.

His side's opening league game is against one of the powerhouses of English and European rugby, Leicester Tigers, at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford on 2 September.

"Leicester is never a good fixture whenever you play them," said Jones.

"It's always going to be difficult and we know that."
