Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer win at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal recovered from losing the first set for the third match in a row to beat Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin and reach the last 16 at Wimbledon.

The world number one came through 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-1 6-1 under the Centre Court roof as rain stopped play elsewhere at the All England Club.

Fourth seed Roger Federer, who also played under the roof, was too good for Santiago Giraldo of Colombia.

The seven-time champion eased through 6-3 6-1 6-3.

He will face either 15th seed Jerzy Janowicz of Poland or Spain's Tommy Robredo in the fourth round on Monday.

Nadal, seeded second, will next face Australian teenage wildcard Nick Kyrgios who followed up his win over 13th seed Richard Gasquet by defeating Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic 3-6 6-3 7-5 6-2.

Canadian eighth seed Milos Raonic also went through after beating Poland's Lukasz Kubot 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.

Kukushkin had only three wins on grass and one win over a top-10 opponent going into Saturday's match, but 17 rasping winners kept Nadal at a safe distance in the opening set.

When the world number 63 maintained that level to take the tie-break, there was the first glimmer of an upset, but as soon as Kukushkin's first-serve percentage dipped in the second set, he became vulnerable.

Nadal broke serve for the first time to move 3-1 in front and pounced on 10 of 12 looks at the Kazakh's second serve as he levelled at one set all.

Kukushkin was not helped by a troublesome knee as Nadal won 14 of the next 15 games. The two-time champion fired a string of winners before sealing victory with another spectacular forehand into the corner.

"The body is feeling fine," Nadal told BBC Sport. "I finished all my matches playing better than when I started and that is very positive.

"I'm very happy to be in the second week after two years losing in the first and second rounds. I am fighting for every ball and playing to find right solutions in every game."

Federer, who has not had his serve broken in his three matches so far, is looking forward to the second week of the tournament having been beaten in the second round last year.

"I got off to a good start and broke early and stayed in control until midway through the third when I had a couple of break points against me. But I got out and next time I got break point against him I served it out.

"I'm happy - it was a good match but I am aware of the tough draws and the grass plays differently in the second week, but I am happy to make it there. I just have to play aggressive and keep serving well."

Japanese 10th seed Kei Nishikori was tied in the fifth set of his match with Italy's Simone Bolelli at 3-6 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-3 when bad light forced play to be suspended.
