Britons Kyle Edmund and Liam Broady are within two matches of the Australian Open main draw after winning their debuts in Melbourne qualifying.

Edmund, 20, beat France's Tristan Lamasine 6-4 6-2 and faces American Austin Krajicek - a distant relative of ex-Wimbledon champion Richard - next.

Broady, the 21-year-old world 193, made light of 73 ranking places to beat Uzbek Farrukh Dustov 6-4 6-3.

A third Briton, Brydan Klein, lost to Australia's Dane Propoggia.

British number one Andy Murray is seeded sixth for the tournament, which begins on Monday.

Women's qualifying begins on Thursday with Naomi Broady - Liam's 24-year-old sister - facing Urszula Radwanska, sister of world number six Agnieszka.

The other Briton in the draw, Johanna Konta, plays 24th seed Anna Tatishvili of the United States.
