Jazz Carlin: Commonwealth champion leaves Wales for Bath

Carlin set a new Commonwealth Games record in the 800m freestyle final at Glasgow 2014

Commonwealth champion Jazz Carlin will prepare for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro at the national training centre in Bath.

Swindon-born Carlin, 24, was previously based at Wales National Pool in Swansea, but ex-coach Bud McAllister moved to Australia in early 2014.

Carlin is now training under Bath centre head coach David McNulty.

"It's been a tough decision to move to Bath. But I'm really looking forward to working with David," she said.

"I've worked with David a lot this year as a coach in the build up to the European Championships and World short course Championships, and I am confident that Bath currently offers the best programme for me.

"I still have a big dream of competing at an Olympic Games and I am still very determined to achieve this.

"My only focus now is preparation for 2016."

Carlin thanked coaches and staff at the Swansea venue, saying: "It has meant so much to me and has helped me to achieve so much in my career to date."

The announcement of Carlin's move came soon after she was named British Swimming Athlete of 2014.

It has been a successful year for Carlin.

She became the first Welsh woman to win Commonwealth Games gold in the pool in 40 years at Glasgow 2014 in the 800m freestyle, adding 400m and 800m freestyle golds at the European Championships.

Carlin also went on to add a silver medal in the 800m freestyle at the World Short Course Championships in Doha to her medal haul.
