Real Madrid will use the £42.4m from the sale of 24-year-old Mesut Ozil to Arsenal to make a move for either Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, 26, or Monaco forward Radamel Falcao, 27, when the transfer window reopens in January.
Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis says he had agreed a move to Newcastle but that the switch fell through when the Tyneside club asked him to lower his wage demands.
