Veteran quarterback Tony Romo returned from injury to steer Dallas Cowboys to a 31-17 win over Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley.

Despite suffering two fractured vertebrae in his lower back only two weeks earlier, the 34-year-old passed a late fitness test.

This was the last of three NFL matches played at Wembley in 2014, all of them sell-outs.

But the Cowboys will mainly be glad to put back-to-back defeats behind them.

The Jaguars proved accommodating opponents and have now won just one of ten games this season.

Romo helped put on a show in Dallas's first London visit as he completed 20-of-27 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns in front of 86,000 fans, including Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero., external

Wide receiver Dez Bryant was equally impressive as he chalked up 158 receiving yards and two scores.

Despite a promising start, the Jaguars's second trip to London ended in another heavy defeat following last year's 42-10 loss to San Francisco.

Romo looked ring rusty early on, overthrowing a wide open Jason Witten before Jacksonville snatched a 7-3 lead courtesy of Denard Robinson's 32-yard touchdown run.

But a fluffed punt return by Ace Sanders was the break Dallas needed and they took full advantage.

Romo found Witten in the end zone from two yards to take the lead back, and Bryant then touched down twice in the second quarter.

He broke several tackles on a bulldozing 35-yard run to the end zone for the first before latching onto a 68-yard pass from Romo for a 24-7 half-time lead.

When Joseph Randle broke through with a 40-yard scoring run midway through the third quarter, the contest was effectively over.

A holding penalty against Dallas in the fourth quarter saw Jacksonville awarded a safety and their first points since the opening touchdown of the night.

Robinson ran in his second score late on for the Jaguars before Blake Bortles found Allen Robinson for a two-point conversion to give the scoreline a little respectability.
