The Lions held Justin Jefferson to just three receptions in last week's huge game in Detroit, but the Vikings' star receiver says that setback has acted as a "learning curve" heading into this season's play-offs.

"The environment that we were in, it was like a play-off atmosphere, but the best part about it is that it wasn't a play-off game," he told BBC Sport.

"It wasn't a win-or-go-home situation so it's taking that experience and seeing the things that we can do better, going into this week with a whole different mindset, bringing some more energy and everybody needs to be on the same page."

And Jefferson is confident the Vikings can avoid a repeat of 2022, when they had a 13-4 record only to be one-and-done in the play-offs.

"Two years ago, we had all those close games we were winning but this year we're putting points on people," he added.

"The weapons that we have on both sides of the ball, the excitement that we've been playing with, it feels like more of a complete team this year. But we've got to finish it. Having one play-off game, that's not good enough."

'No room for emotion' - O'Connell on facing former team in play-offs

Kevin O'Connell was previously offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams and became the Minnesota Vikings head coach three days after helping the Rams win the Super Bowl in 2022.

"[Rams head coach] Sean McVay used to use the term 'we compete with our schemes, but we win with our people'," said O'Connell. "I believe that we've done some similar things here, but at the same time this is our version.

"It's always great to see those folks, Sean is one of my best friends, but it's the play-offs. There's really no room for emotion, so make no mistake about it, we’re trying to do everything we can to win."

Because of the wildfires in LA, tonight's game has been switched to Arizona and O'Connell, who grew up in the San Diego area, added: "Southern California is near and dear to my heart. I've got so many relationships there, not just with the Rams, but people from growing up that I know have been impacted.

"There's a couple friends of mine that did lose homes in the Palisades fire. It's a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers have been with all of those folks and the first responders.

“In regards to our game, we're going to get on a plane, it's just where's the plane going to land. The mentality you have to have is that you'll play anywhere, anytime, and we're going to put our best foot forward."

  6. Why is tonight's game in Arizona?published at 00:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Rams (01:00 GMT)

Tonight's game was moved to Arizona due to the raging wildfires in California.

The game had been due to be played at the Rams' SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a city in the south west of Los Angeles.

But the NFL moved the game to the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona after consultation with public officials, clubs and the players' union.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have left at least 24 dead and forced hundreds of thousands of residents out of their homes throughout the state.
