Great Britain's Ella Gibson has won her first outdoor individual European gold medal at the European Archery Championships in Essen, Germany.

Gibson, from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, overcame Elisa Roner from Italy in a one-arrow shoot-off in the final after the duo were initially tied following five rounds.

The 23-year-old world number one previously took home a silver medal from the championships in 2021.

"It meant a lot especially as my first individual outdoor senior medal was actually a silver at the Europeans in 2021, so it feels like a full circle, except that I won this one," Gibson said.

"I remember how nervous [I was] and [how] hard I found that final and how different I am now with so much more experience."

In the recurve mixed team event, Bryony Pitman and Conor Hall won silver - the first time Great Britain have won a mixed European team medal since 2010.
