It seems people reading this blog think that the Team GB athletes should be immune to criticism. This has been an underwhelming world championships and that is fact. Improvement is vastly needed ahead of Beijing 2027 and LA 2028

It's hard to know what to say about this Team GB performance. Paris was poor and this was worse. I guess the only way is up?

    Women's 4x400m final

No GB team in this one after they finished last in their heat - but there is some tangential British interest.

Isabelle Black, daughter of 1991 4x400m gold medal winner Roger Black, ran the third leg for France in the heats to help them earn a spot in the final.

Olympic champions USA will start as favourites after setting a world lead time in the heats, and could call on individual world champion Sydney McLaughlin-Lavrone.

Netherlands and Jamaica, the top two in the 2023 World Championships, will likely provide the sternest challenge.

Bizarre look in the discus with the rain. Surely have a cover over the area where they throw, like a cricket square cover.

More medal disappointment today (and I'm not talking about Keely or Georgia's excellent medals). Team captain fails to medal, footballer's son - as he seems destined to be known as - well off the pace. Poor planning for the climate in Tokyo perhaps?

    Dan, Bristol

Considering the amount of money poured into UK athletics compared to many other sports, this has been a desperately disappointing performance from the entire UK team
