One man who knows these streets better than most is David Weir.

Today he will compete in the London Marathon for the 25th year in a row, bidding for a ninth victory.

He will do so with a new racing chair that, on paper at least, seems to have significantly boosted his chances.

Armed with the new equipment, 45-year-old Weir has been resurgent this year - setting personal bests in other distances and breaking the T54 5000m British record in February.

Competing in the same chair as long-time rival Marcel Hug in a marathon for the first time, Weir finished in third place and six minutes behind the 'Swiss Silver Bullet' as he won his seventh Boston Marathon on Monday.

What can Weir do with home advantage today?

Jackie Scully, breast cancer survivor, who is running in the London Marathon told BBC: "I got married seven years ago and ran the next day in our wedding gear. This year marks my 10 years clear of breast cancer. I decided to turn it into a team game this year and show that cancer affects not just one, but others around you. We have the most amazing bus to run in so hopefully the crowds will get behind us and we make our way round."

Later on thousands and thousands of people will take to the streets of London, each taking part in the marathon for their own special reasons.

Jackie Scully who had breast cancer will be one of those running - and she'll do so in a 10-person bus costume in a bid to break a Guinness World Record.

This year marks 10 years since Jackie finished chemotherapy.

She ran the marathon in her wedding dress after marrying her husband, Duncan, a few hours before but this time will be joined in her bus by nine friends.

The time for them to beat for the record is six hours and 55 minutes.

"I hope we can do it and I think crossing the finish line will be among the most amazing moments of my entire life," she said.
